Talay (Lay) Sanguandikun | ทะเลสงวนดีกุล [Profiler] (2024)

Lay Talay Sanguandikun (ทะเลสงวนดีกุล, also known as Sanguandikul; Lay;เล), was born on September 9th, 1995, and is a popular Thai actor noted for portrayals of King in “My Engineer The Series” and Pun in “YYY The Series.”

His looks, coupled with his ability to act, have won him widespread popularity.

Talay As An Actor

Before establishing his presence as a bankable actor in the Thai BL industry, Talay played support roles of Sinsiia – Sai LubJubAbb สายลับจับแอ๊บ (2018), and Steve in RejctX (Indian Web series) (2019). However, what made him insanely popular was his character role “King” in “My Engineer The Series.” His onscreen chemistry with co-star Perth Nakhun “Ram” was very much appreciated. Ram and King’s story is based on the novel “Space Between Us.”

His character King, is a cheerful Engineering Senior, belonging to show’s main lead “Bohn’s” motley gang of close friends. There aren’t many facets to this character other than the fact that King is apparently a Topper (he’s pretty damn smart) and is very scared of dogs. The character’s love for greenery is visible from the number of plants in the kitchen as well as his rooms at his dorm and home. He loves having silent conversations with his plants without expecting any response. It is his nature to draw comfort from silence. This trait could be the reason why he’s drawn to his Junior Ram and finds him intriguing. They are total opposites; Ram is broody and silent while King is bright like Sunshine!

Their initial interactions spawn from King’s desire to have Ram respond to him verbally. It’s awfully sweet to watch him make continuous efforts to help Ram. Talay bought a certain innocence to this character that made King so relatable. On the other hand, Ram is an introvert, and it’s not easy getting through his time-built walls. Persistence and patience are the keys, and Talay certainly gave his character those emotions in his performance very well. King understands Ram’s hesitancy and is ready to wait him out.

As the show progresses, King’s patience pays off, and Ram is more receptive to his overtures. As these two grow closer, with support from Ram’s brother, who is an absolute sleuth and King’s fujoshi sister, we appreciate their dynamics more. You have to understand that trying to pry open Ram’s impermeable emotional exterior is not an easy job, but King does it with finesse. Also, can we appreciate the close-up shots of Talay where he looks just so dreamy. Talay has a beautiful profile, so every time the camera scans over his distinct facial features, you fall a little more in love, and so does Ram!

The betrayal that Ram faces at home with the discovery of his father’s affairs with Ram’s best friend leads him to stay at King’s dorm. King becomes his shelter as well as the soothing balm Ram’s hurting heart requires. The relationship becomes stronger as Ram openly voices his feelings. While Ram is now more forthcoming, King begins to withdraw. In the penultimate episode, however, confusion ensues, and mainly King goes through stages of denial, again. The way he cries and voices his inability to stay away from Ram will pull at your heartstrings forever. The scene is certainly one of Talay’s best performances to date. The two share a passionate kiss before they both fall asleep.

I’m a little disappointed with the way the show came up with a bizarre cliffhanger ending to this couple. King is trying to avoid any sort of long-running goodbyes with Ram and any discussions of the previous night, and so leaves the campsite in a hurry. Within a minute, Ram sends King a text letting King know he remembers the previous night cleary. Even with that, I’m totally looking forward to their story unfold in Season 2!

Never be said that Talay isn’t a wealth of talent when it comes to varied expressions. He is not only good at serious scenes but also has a comedic flair. His chemistry with Perth was sensual and passionate. However, with his “YYY series” co-star Yoon Phusanu, he was also intense and added pure comedy. Inserting elements of serious romance in a crazy slapstick affair like “YYY” is rather difficult. But Talay’s Pun and Yoon’s Nott have an incomparable camaraderie as well as the charm that leaves you pleased.

In “YYY,” Talay’s character starts as roommates with Yoon’s character Nott faking a relationship. However, their romance is different. You can’t help but swoon when Pun enters the scene, and Nott instantly claims him as a boyfriend. As they get closer and the lines begin to blur slowly, elements like jealousy and misunderstandings play a major role. While it sounds wacky and makes you wonder about ingenuity, Talay plays off the emotions well. From trying to keep Nott at a distance to finally realizing his helping tendency and gradually falling in love, Pun by far is the only serious character in this rambunctious romcom. Although the antics of other characters leave you laughing out loud, the show is entirely centered around Nott and Pun’s blossoming relationship.

Audiences were thrilled when Nott & Pun finally admitted their feeling for one another, although it took a goddamn fire accident for that to happen. The number of mishaps recurring in this sitcom will leave you bewildered. However, the show surprised us in the finale when Nott rejects Pun’s proposal, and we are left wondering where things went wrong. Despite that, I’m glad the show gave us a closure, where Nott and Pun realize their mistakes and part with a promise to meet again. That brings us to the next season, where our adorable couple will probably reconcile and finally have their “Happily Ever After.”

Talay’s ability to make you feel the character’s pain is amazing. He embodies the role readily, be it King or Pun. His interactions with Poppy Ratchapong’s “Porpla” were equally appreciated as they formed an odd sense of sisterhood.

Talay’s Chemistry With His Co-Stars

Ram and King are currently one of the fan-favorite Thai BL couples. They are also great friends and can be seen goofing around. Talay is a seasoned actor, while Perth Nakhun is a newcomer. Still, the chemistry they share ranges from sensual to smoking hot. The loving stares they share with each other convey an ocean of emotions. While it might have been increasingly difficult for Perth to play a character like Ram, having Talay as a co-star certainly seems to have made things easier. They share a great comfort zone, which translates into extraordinary romance onscreen.

In an interview with Zokzakdara, both admitted their scenes weren’t easy. Perth, being half Thai, had problems talking in the native language. Also, in most of the scenes, Perth had to control his emotions while Talay did the talking. They probably had a lot of retakes, but the fact remains, the hard work paid off! Perth further asserted that his favorite scene is “Kissing Scene.” He explains that Talay is normally a calm, funny person who doesn’t yell that much. But the way Talay emoted in that scene, Perth really felt King’s anger and was distinctly impressed by his co-star’s acting skills. Talay as a person is very easy going and friendly. Perth asserts that Talay is not a poser, two-timing person, but he is mostly himself. They are comfortable around each other and talk almost about everything. Games seem to be their favorite subject.

Talay’s chemistry with “YYY Series” co-star Yoon YoonPhusanu is too adorable. They are utterly professional, and that’s one of the reasons why the scenes come out so well. Nott and Pun start as strangers first. However, Nott’s friendly nature makes Pun fall for this crazy mechanic with mad skills. I think what made this pair so different was that they carved out a place for themselves in the middle of all the chaos that made up this sitcom. Their presence was unprecedented. Despite Poppy’s Porpla, which was the highlight of the show, Nott and Pun’s romance created a niche in the chaos!

Yoon and Talay both featured in the “YYY Series” OST. The fans loved their vocals as well as the adorable moments sprinkled throughout the MV. Check it out for yourself and enjoy the sweetness!

Talay has been featured in other music videos as well such as:

“STAMP – The Devil” (2017),
“–นิว – จิ๋ว (New Jiew)” – ไม่เกี่ยวกับเธอ (Mai GureGub Tur) (2018),
โอ๊ต ปราโมทย์ (Oat Pramote) – ติดตลก (Tid Ta Lok) | 2018
Dif Kids X K. Aglet feat.K. Praewa – มาไงคาใจ (Ma Ngai Ka Jai) (2019).

Talay As A Tv Show Host

Talay (Lay) Sanguandikun | ทะเลสงวนดีกุล [Profiler] (20)

My Engineer, Summer Trip, premiered on June 13th, 2020. This show doesn’t really have a fixed format. It seems like the show’s producers took the cast and crew to Pattaya for a photoshoot. Then they suddenly decided to shoot the off-screen antics of our main leads to present as a TV Show. But just because it isn’t scripted, it doesn’t mean that the show is bad. It’s hilarious and leaves you smiling like a fool. Talay especially always gets stuck in unfavorable situations, but he is so adorable that you still fall for him.

The episode pings high on the hotness meter with the boys playing around in the pool while they are being photographed. These antics seem more like some awkward BTS (behind the scenes), but you get to ogle the handsome guys! What’s not to like?! Talay and Perth make the compatible couple as they pose for the photo book, and you can’t help but be stunned by their closeness as well as angelic profiles.

Talay’s reaction is priceless when both of them get the second spot in the Red Thread Pandox box contest and are designated as the “Sofa Couple.” However, before long, they settle down and are playing games like any other normal day.

Talay is also a total disaster in the kitchen the next day, as he keeps breaking eggs randomly and makes a mess of the kitchen top. Poor Perth has no idea of what to do with his partner. You will burst out laughing when Talay rushes to a sleepy MD and proudly announces that he broke three eggs!

Talay and Poy are both named “The Disaster Twins,” and I strongly recommend that both of them should never be allowed to set foot inside a kitchen again! There is not much in the first episode apart from the craziness that our three main couples put on display. Not a whole lot of hosting happening, but I did enjoy watching Talay being so cute and funny.

Talay As A Person

Talay has majored in Multi-Media, Social Communication Innovation faculty, studying at Srinakharinwirot University in Bangkok. After he graduated in 2018, he worked at a production agency working behind the scenes for about a year, before he transitioned to acting full time.

In his interview with the popular magazine Rabenda, Talay talks about himself and his family. His name “Talay” means Sea; he was named Talay because his family often used to go to the sea. His father worked on a resort business at KohSamet (an island about 3 hours drive from Bangkok and a popular tourist destination). Unfortunately, his father, who was an architect, died in an accident when Talay was in 1st grade.

Talay’s favorite activity is to travel, and he mostly prefers going to the beach. His favorite kind of beaches are the ones that give an “island atmosphere” kind of feeling. His favorite hobby is watching movies, and he is a major coffee addict and can’t do without it.
When asked about his perspective about love, Talay was shy and replied, “Right now I’m not focused on love. The person who comes into my life should not try to control me. I want someone who understands the way I am. Because pretending to change for that person can be tiring.

I’m looking forward to watching him reprise his role of “King” in ‘My Engineer the Series S2,” as well as Pun in “YYY the Series S2.”
