Our Founding & Humble Roots
BSN Sports can trace its origins back to 1972 when Gary Bosselman first opened up shop in a two-car garage in Grand Island, Nebraska. Gary was an entrepreneur and former basketball coach who saw a need for better sports equipment at more affordable prices. At the time, quality gear was difficult for youth programs, schools, colleges, and clubs to obtain. So Gary used the garage as storage, taking orders by phone during the day. At night, he loaded up a small truck and personally delivered gear to customers spanning a 100-mile radius.
Word spread quickly about Gary’s prices, selection and dedication. Soon BSN (the initials of “Bosselman Sports Network”) moved out of the garage into its first small warehouse. By providing exceptional service and going the extra mile for customers, Gary was able to rapidly expand while maintaining the spirit of a small business.

Phi Delta Theta’s Sports Safety Program
To prevent injuries and save lives, we teamed with Phi Delta Theta fraternity to promote Sports Safety Month each October. Thousands of schools & clubs receive our safety stickers, posters and educational materials for posting in training rooms, locker rooms and gymnasiums. These serve as constant safety reminders to Avoid head-first contact in sports and Get a pre-season physical.
Why We Run Foundation
We proudly sponsor the Why We Run Foundation, which alleviates poverty in the Dominican Republic. Donations provide kids with food, education and medical care so they can develop self-confidence. BSN Sports covers 1.5 times the miles logged by participating student & club teams running laps around their school’s track. Company contributions have funded the opening of a computer center plus installation of a clean water well and bathroom facilities at the foundation’s school center.
FC Tucker Inner City Youth Foundation
We also partner with the FC Tucker Foundation serving inner city communities in Birmingham and Huntsville, Alabama through after-school programs for disadvantaged youth combining tutoring and athletics. BSN Sports helped build a high school soccer field allowing club teams and phys ed classes to practice. Our employees volunteer coaching children in various sports. And each year, holiday “Angel Tree” toy & clothing drives spread joy to struggling families.
