DeKalb County Youth Soccer Organization SMYSA is kicking balls while taking donations to inspire our 16.8% of neighboring families living below poverty levels.
Every donation can help aid our
community with support, food,
clothing and toys for the
holidays.
Stone Mountain, November 4,
2010:
The
Directory52 Network today
announced that its plan to
sponsor the 2010’s Stone
Mountain Youth Soccer Fall
Festival this November will
definitely take place rain or
shine. The company has long
awaited an opportunity to work
with a youth sports and
community focused organization
in the area. "Stone Mountain Youth
Soccer Association has been
around since 1982 , while many
residents of DeKalb County do
not even realize what impact
they have on the youth,” said
Mechelle Lewis, CEO of The
Directory52 Network.
The SMYSA, 501 c3 Non-Profit,
program is tucked away in the
Wade Walker Park, but offers two
fulfilling seasons per year for
those aged 4 to 19.
At Wade Walker sports
offered are Baseball, Football,
Cheerleading and of course
Soccer. Before practice school
kids have a place to do
homework, watch past soccer
games and during the summer
enroll in Sports Camp. The adult
men’s and women’s leagues grow
with every season as well with
experiences that will last a
lifetime.
Entitled “Mountains of
Inspiration” a theme that
welcomes residents to come out
and be inspired to grow the
county by community
participation will be the first
of its kind but it will continue
each Fall and Spring. At the
Fall Festival we are expecting
to receive donations that can
support 80 homes in the area.
The U.S. Census Bureau confirmed
that in the Stone Mountain area
alone, 9.3 percent of the
population is living below the
poverty line.
“There are lots of organizations
that families in DeKalb County
can contribute to, but giving
donations and community support
from DeKalb County and putting
those resources back into DeKalb
County seems like a smarter move
for our economic growth. These
kids and families are attending
our schools, libraries and
grocery stores, the least we can
do is give them a brighter
holiday season.” said Mechelle
Lewis.
"I think this partnership will
be the beginning of something
great here at SMYSA especially
since in 2012 we will be
celebrating our 30th
year anniversary and DeKalb
County needs this.” said Keith
James, Director of Recreation of
SMYSA.
Come down to Wade Walker Park in
the Stone Mountain area this
Saturday, November 13, 2010 for
SMYSA’s Mountains of Inspiration
1st Semi-Annual
Festival in the Park! Festival
entrances can be found on
Rockbridge Road between South
Hairston and Stone Mtn-Lithonia
Road. With plenty of delicious
food, amazing face painting from
local artists, relay races, moon
bouncing, poetry and great music
on the Soccer Lawn; this is
definitely a family-friendly
event that can’t be missed!
This fun filled event is
designed to promote and
stimulate interest in the sport
of soccer and community
philanthropy. It provides the
opportunity for all to come
together donate can goods,
clothing, coats and toys for
other families in the DeKalb
county area while supporting
local business vendors.
